Having now logged on and had the chance to explore the layout of the directory hierarchy, it is time to take a look at a small selection of the hundreds of commands that are available. In a volume of this size it is not possible to cover in detail all the commands available. However, as you will soon see, Linux does have a good selection of system documentation on-line for you to explore and more is being added all the time.
In general, you will find that UNIX (and hence Linux) commands are very silent when they execute. That is to say, they don't generate any unnecessary output so that the usual indication you get that a command has executed successfully is the prompt you get for the next command.
