Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
Why study Computing (part-time)?
The course aims to allow people currently working within
a computing or computer related environment to develop and extend their
knowledge and skills in the computing field.
It encourages students to place their professional activity within an
academic framework.
It is also hoped that, as well as enhancing the students' career
prospects, it will also lead to a greater understanding of the context
and direction of their professional environment.
What does the course involve?
The minimum period of study is five years, although there is
flexibility in how students organise their study, and
the length of time they wish to take. Students will normally attend lectures
one day a week.
During the first two years, students
are required to
study 8 core modules, worth 20 credits each. In the third year,
two themes are introduced which may allow students to specialise in
either Computer Science or Software Engineering if they so wish.
Other themes may also become available in the future.
Further optional and compulsory modules are taken in the forth year.
Students will take an Individual Project in the final year,
which may be related to their work environment.
Here is a detailed programme structure
for 2002/2003.

these require at least one computing or mathematics prior
qualification. Also on offer are Information
Systems Analysis and Business Information
Systems, which are oriented towards Information Systems, rather than Computing.
