Ben Tillett was one of the founders of the Labour Party and the Transport and General Workers Union.
Born in John Street, Easton in 1860.
1908 joined the Social Democratic Party
1910 helped establish National Transport Workers' Federation. Became the Union's leader.
1911 won national strike.
Founder of Daily Herald
1918 stood for Labour Party in North Salford.
1931 Retired as an MP.
Died 27 January 1943
The colourful plaque was designed by local artist and carver, Mike Baker and is the latest sign in Living Easton's hugely successful Easton Timesigns Trail depicting Easton's fascinating social and industrial history.
