Final Year Projects

My main areas of research span across Data Visualisation, Visual Analytics, Machine Learning and Cyber Security. Other related areas of interest include Computer Graphics, Human-Computer Interaction, and Computer Vision. When you are considering a supervisor for your project, it is beneficial to choose a supervisor whose interests reflect the scope of your project. Any projects that fall within these research areas are of interest to me. Below are just some suggestions of possible projects - of course, you are welcome to propose your own as well. You will also find details of previous project students so that you can gauge your ideas against previous works. Many of the projects I have supervised are written using Python and JavaScript, which I typically use in my research, so a good working knowledge of these can be beneficial.

  • Active and Interactive Machine Learning techniques - how can visualisation and interaction allow users to make better sense of complex analytical process
  • Is the human actually an 'oracle'? - how can machine learning identify inconistencies or inaccuracies with human input data?
  • Visual Analytics Challenges - how can bespoke visual analytic tools be developed to solve real-world data challenges?
  • Visual Summarisation - how can we best convey large volumes of data in compact visual summaries?
  • Visualisation for Cyber Security - what are the current challenges in cyber security data analytics, and how can we address these problems?
  • Video Visualisation and Analytics - what can we learn from video data, and how best can we summarise this to reduce viewing time required?
  • Text analytics and visualisation - what methods are appropriate for understanding textual information, and visualising this (going beyond typical techniques such as word clouds)?
  • Spatial-temporal visualisations - many visualisation techniques convey spatial or temporal information, but how can we combine these effectively?
