Bezier Synthesis
Mac OS X Installation
Downloads
You need to download and unzip the following items:
If you prefer, you can use a Midi keyboard and a Midi-USB interface box to control the synthesizer.
Installation
- Install MidiKeys following the instructions on the web site
- Unzip bezmac.zip:
- Drag and drop BezierWaves.jar to a suitable directory of your choice
- Note that you will also need to install either Plumstone (G3/G4/G5 Macs) or Mandolane MIDI SPI (Intel Macs).
Both
products can be obtained by visiting the Mandolane web-site
Running the Software
- Start the MidiKeys program (or connect the Midi keyboard and Midi-USB interface
box)
- Start the BezierWaves program by double clicking on its jar file
- When BezierWaves starts up, setup the appropriate values on its popup
dialogue box:
- The appropriate Midi Input device - this must be set to MidiKeys
or the Midi input device
- The sampling rate - 48000 recommended
- The write buffer length - larger values increase the latency (delay between
pressing the key and hearing the sound) but are recommended for slower Macs.
If you have a fast Mac then try reducing the buffer length.
- Maximum polyphony - two is recommended for slower Macs. If you have a fast
Mac then try increasing the value to play more notes simultaneously.
- Once the software is running, try selecting from the list of preset voices,
or playing with the controls.
Note that there is a short delay when you change to a different preset voice.
- In the
unlikely event of an error occuring, an alert box will pop-up. More error information
can be found by running the Console program found in the /Applications/Utilities
folder.
