This coursework provides an opportunity for the student to apply site analysis frameworks to a selected web site, and to be able to suggest ways in which this site can be improved in its management and operations. This coursework draws on the work on technical challenges and on the framework proposed by Diffily for Web Site Management.
Each student will be allocated a different UWE web site from the list of those where the web site manager has agreed to be interviewed.
In preparation for writing the deliverables, you need to
A single typed document containing two parts
1. Site overview: an overview of the site, its purpose, audience, scope of content, site structure and technology. You should identify any specific technical challenges which the site presents and the way in which they are being addressed. This section will draw on the first terms independent study of technical challenges and other sources. 50%
2. An audit of the site management, from maintenance through construction and governance with recommendations for any changes in management with their rationale. This section will draw on the material in Diffily and other indicated sources.

Part 1 A basic answer (40-50) will be a description of the site and its implementation. In a good answer (50 - 60) this description will be well-structured and clear. A very good answer (60 -70) will go beyond this to description to identify several challenges which the site faces (such as security and reliability) and analytically discusses the measures taken. An excellent answer (70 and above) will demonstrate a deep understanding of the problems which the site presents and explains how these have been met. A fail answer (below 40) will lack engagement with the task and demonstrate gross misunderstanding of the nature of the site and its technology.
Part 2 A basic answer (40-50) will have use the basic headings in Diffily to organise purely descriptive information which shows a lack of distinction between management and technical descriptions. A good answer (50-60) will provide a clear and well-structured audit of the site. A very good answer (60-70) will in addition include relevant and useful recommendations for changes in management and governance practice. An excellent answer (70 and above) will demonstrate insight into the conflicting forces which the web site manager must balance.. A fail answer (below 40) will show lack of engagement with the task, failure to interview the site manager and demonstrate a lack of understating of the nature of a management-level audit.
