The Computational Intelligence and Optimisation Group (CIOG) is part of Coventry University’s Control Theory and Applications Centre, a centre of excellence which combines expertise across the disciplines of control engineering, mathematics, operational research, statistics and software engineering.

Services offered

CIOG uses emerging computational methods such as neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy systems to develop innovative solutions to industrial control and business planning problems. Past projects include gas demand forecasting, optimisation of aluminium smelting operations, flowshop scheduling, and the induction of finite state machines for image identification.

Experience

CIOG has worked with clients from a range of industries, including brewing, energy, engineering (especially automotive), finance, horticulture and the health service. Clients include: Bass Breweries, British Gas, CEGELEC, Ford, GEC-Alstom, Horticultural Research International, Jaguar, Lucas, Marconi and Rover.
