    • Exploring the use of memory in systems such as cellular automata and their identification through machine learning.

  • Mining Olympic Sailing Boat Telemetry Data (EPSRC, 2007-2008)
    • Using machine learning to explore Olympic team data, in collaboration with UK Sport.

  • Mining Athlete Event Data (EPSRC, 2007-2008)
    • Using machine learning to explore Olympic athlete data, in collaboration with UK Sport.

  • Dynamic Soaring (Leverhulme, 2005-2008)
    • Use of fuzzy LCS to examine dynamic soaring in unmanned aircraft.

    • Creation of a UK machine learning data mining tool in collaboration with Manchester and UEA.

  • A Learning Classifier Systems Approach to Neural Constructivism (EPSRC ROPA, 2002-2004)
    • Use of NCS to control mobile robots where rule complexity emerges through learning.

  • Data Mining (LloydsTSB, 2001-2003)
    • Using machine learning techniques, particularly XCS, for prediction on various types of financial data.

  • LCS for Road Traffic Junction Control (EPSRC, 2001-2003)
    • Applying LCS with rule-linkage to distributed traffic signal control, in collaboration with UCL.

  • Evolutionary Robotics (UWE CollR & BT Labs, 1999-2002)
    • Use of self-adaptive LCS for mobile robot control.

  • Vintage (EU ESPRIT, 1998-2000)
    • A European project which built a distributed LCS kernel, with applications in traffic signal control and robotics. Multiple ZCS-based controllers went on-line in Valencia's traffic system summer 2000 with good results.

  • Autonomous Vehicles (DERA, 2000)
    • A project to examine the use of LCS as simulated plane controllers.

  • Agent-based Economics (HP Labs, 1999)
    • Use of ZCS as simulated on-line traders in continuous double-auction markets.

  • Data Mining (DTI Teaching Company Scheme, 1997-1999)
    • Specifically examining the use of XCS and representing its first commercial exploitation.
