Student lockers are available in P Block on Level 2. You should go to Q Block Reception (Room 2Q1) where staff will able to help you register your locker. At the end of the academic year you must empty your locker and remove the padlock. 

You cannot "carry over" your locker into the next academic year.

Yes, but you will need to get it approved by the Placements Office as it must be suitably challenging and relevant to your degree.

Take or e-mail a copy of the job description to the Placements Office to check everything is OK before you commit to anything.

The BIT Graduation Ceremony this year will be on Thursday 18th November 2010 in Bristol Cathedral.  There will be 2 ceremonies, divided up as below:

Enrolment (now known as Registration) will be mainly on-line this year, via the MyUWE portal on the UWE website.

Generally, no. If there are major problems related to childcare or medical requirements, you may be able to change your tutorial group, but this is not guaranteed.

For academic reasons, it's unlikely that you'll be able to transfer to another module after teaching begins. However, if you wish to request a transfer you should fill in a Module Change Form which is available from BIT Q Block Reception (2Q1). This will then be given to a student adviser who, if they support the request, will forward it to the timetabling office. If your request is not accepted, you will be notified. If it is accepted, you will see the change on your web timetable.

There are 2 main sources of support if you are having any IT problems on campus.

• The BIT IT Support Desk is based in 3P12 (Level 3 in P block). It provides IT support for all BIT computer systems.

• The UWE IT Support Centre (ITS) is based in room 1E007 (opposite the Nat West bank) and provides software and hardware support for all the UWE systems and labs and printers in the 24 hour labs.

Every Room number on the UWE campus is made up of a series of letters and numbers and it's very helpful to know what they all mean! Taking the example above:

The most important digit is the letter (P) as this tells you which block (ie building) you are aiming for. For BIT students, you will be mostly using rooms in P block, N block, Q block, and B block (Business School). It will help if you have a clickable map to familiarise yourself with the location of all these buildings, but they are also signposted around the campus.

Having found the right buidling, look at the first number (2). This tells you what level the room is on (1 being ground floor, 2 being 1st floor etc - except in P and Q blocks where 2 actually means the ground floor unfortunately!).

Finally look at the numbers after the letter - this tells you the actual room number which should normally follow logically in numerical order as you follow the room numbers along a corridor. Good Luck!

Plagiarism means representing the words or the ideas of someone else as if they were your own. It is not permitted in all academic and professional institutions.

If you include in your assignments at UWE unacknowledged text which was written by someone else, or unacknowledged ideas which belong to someone else, whether from books, project reports/dissertations from previous years or downloaded from the internet, you are likely to be accused of an assessment offence, the penalites for which are severe and might include failure of the module.

Exam results are no longer sent to your home address.  They are available online via the UWE Portal / My UWE.

There are lifts in N Block (by the entrance to RAMP) and P Block (near the main Reception area).

If you need a reference, you should ask a tutor who knows you well enough to comment on your individual work and personal characteristics. Before naming someone as your referee, you should check with them if they are willing to be your named referee.

It's also worth checking that they are not on holiday or at a conference if you are likely to need a reference during the summer!

In the absence of a CV or any personal knowledge of you, the faculty can provide a standard reference which will confirm details of your course and dates of attendance only.

In the Bristol Institute of Technology your first port of call for any general queries about your programme of study, or financial or personal issues, should be one of our Student Advisers. They have expertise in the structure of your course, as well as experience in some of the financial and personal worries often faced by students. Most of your queries will be dealt with on the spot. If your needs are more complex, they will be able to refer you to the appropriate central university support service.
