The RAMP group researches High Speed Machining. The Revolutionary Aerospace Machining Project Laboratory is the key facility for this.

This new million pound facility provides a centre of expertise for aerospace
manufacturing research in the machining of high temperature alloys through a combination
of grinding and milling. RAMP works with companies such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Stellram
on projects funded by EPSRC and the DTI including work on:

Advanced Monolithic Machining Parameters.

Surface Indentation Stress Measurement.

Compensation of Billet Residual Stress.

Enhanced Fatigue Recovery using Lasers.

The facility provides an advanced manufacturing technology for the benefit of the global
aerospace industry and should allow UWE to become the leading European institution for
advanced machining techniques for the aerospace and related industries. The laboratory
researches high velocity machining and thus opens up opportunities for new methodologies
	    for Ultra High Performance Machining.
