Applied Quantitative Techniques and Statistical Modelling

Academic Staff:

Dr Paul White

Dr Iain Weir

Research Students:

Yasser Shehata

Overview:

The Applied Statistical Modelling Group collaborates extensively with other disciplines from across the university and externally. Collaboration is mainly through the Statistics Support Unit for Research (SSUR), which is widely used by other UWE Faculties, and is generating PhD second-supervisor opportunities from other UWE researchers who want to make use of the group’s expertise.  Interdisciplinary research is carried out relating to several areas of application: health care, regional economics,  psychology, plant science, marine environments and ant brood sorting.  The group also supplies extensive input to the Applied Statistical and Quantitative Modelling (ASQM) consultancy unit.

The applied statistics team at UWE host a series of one-day courses in the application of applied quantitative techniques and research methods.  Batches of these courses run at least three times per year and the courses are open to all.

In addition to collaborative inter-disciplinary work the member of the applied statistical modeling group conduct research in statistical methods and methodology with a particular interest in computational statistics and model building.
