The Applied Mathematics Group was awarded two university bursaries in 2007 to:
Dr Robert Lasiter: PhD student, Zaheed Shareef, is researching the spread of infectious diseases
Dr Vadim Zverovisch: PhD student, Anush Poghosyan is developing the probabilistic method with respect to graph-theoretic parameters.
The group funds two students through EPSRC awards:
Dr Ana Sendova-Franks - "Defying the Rules: how self-regulatory social systems work" with Ph D student Tom Richardson who started in 2007.
Dr Alistair Clark - "Mathematical optimisation of statistical control" with Case award Ph D student Martin Serpell who started in 2007.
The group supervises students who are self-financing:
Yasser Shehata is funded by the Arab Academy of Science and Technology. He is working with Dr Paul White on computationally intensive approach for data mining and statistical model building.
Further bursary opportunities that
become available will be advertised on this page.
The School of Mathematical Sciences at UWE offers the opportunity to study for a research degree in Applied and Pure Mathematics. Students may register for any of the following degrees:
A wide range of research topics are available, including complex fluids, non-linear systems and PDEs, mathematical biology, applied statistical modelling and mathematical education. More details of our research interests are covered in the Overview on the Applied Mathematics Group web page.
